Persian Rug Embargo .

Embargo on Persian Rugs Beginning September 29th.Friday,September 10th, 2010President Obama has signed an embargo into law barring any importation of Iranian goods into the U.S. This ban will include oriental rugs. Previously an embargo was in place, but allowed certain products which included foods and oriental rugs.Effective September 29, 2010, the authorization to import into the United States, and deal in, certain foodstuffs and carpets of Iranian origin was revoked pursuant to section 103 of the Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability, and Divestment Act of 2010.How will this affect prices? Only time will really tell. With limited supply and continued demand, the value and prices of Persian rugs are sure to increase. But with the readily available U.S. inventory and lack of sustainable demand for Persian colors and patterns, prices should normalize after a short period of time.
